January 23rd Tegan & Sara

So yesterday I saw Tegan and Sara and I'm still reeling.

The show was ah-maaa-zing! One of the best I've been to I think.
T&S are so solid live, the songs that I managed to get on video are soooo amazing they could be put on a cd as is. I wouldnt be surprised if they recorded all their songs in one take.

As promised, here are some of the pictures I took, which are 100% mine.

7 random songs, and what they mean to me.

Literally the first 7 songs that came on shuffle.

The Harrowing Adventures - Tokyo Police Club
This song was on my sleepy playlist at some point so I always enter this almost catatonic state of calm whenever I listen to it. But also, a hint of worry, as I tend to think about a lot of things before I fall asleep. This song makes me feel like I'm in a cave, (ironically the name of a song by TPC) with a guitar. I also have the acoustic version, so this might not make sense to anyone but me.

Eddie's Gun - The Kooks
Dance party in my room, essentially.
This song reminds me a lot of my ex-boyfriend, as we used to talk about the Kooks and used to listen to this together.
Theres something really raw and exciting about this song, makes me all jittery and aprehensive, for what I'm not certain.

Eyelids - The Dodos
This song is too short, far far too short.
It reminds me of summer, my best friend, and the incredibly attractive drummer of this band (I've got a thing for drummers).
Its so beautifully romantic, as are a lot of songs by The Dodos, you just can't help but love it.

Flightless Bird, American Mouth - Iron & Wine
This song makes me cry, and I am never certain why, it's just so beautiful and seems to capture something in me that I might not even be aware of.
It is so timeless and simple, but seems to access a certain sense of loss, almost a sad memory.
All in all, a beautiful song.

Falklands Malvinas - Emperor X
No one knows who this band is, I'm pretty sure it's just one guy out of his basement. In fact I'm certain of this because in a moment of complete stalkerness I added this one guy on facebook. Yeah thats right, I have Emperor X on facebook... be jealous.
This song makes me think of a crowd of rowdy teenagers running through a suburban town, knocking over mailboxes and causing a general ruckus.
I can't help but move some part of my body when I listen to this song.

Blow Away - A Fine Frenzy
Ah, the strongest memory yet.
I was so lucky this summer to have caught A Fine Frenzy in concert while visiting family friends on Long Island. It was the sweetest little theatre, with a ceiling painted like the inside of a bigtop at the circus. In a crowd of trendy Hamptoners my sister, our friend and I were the youngest people there and it was one of the most special concerts I've ever been to.
Her voice definetley lacks the power of her live performance, and its almost too difficult to listen to without seeing her free spirited dancing I still can't help but smile when I hear this song.

Rag Mama Rag - The Band
This song just embodies all the conversations I've had with my Dad about music. Because he is such an influence in every aspect of my life it's no surprise that he should invade my music taste aswell, but its a happy invasion, one with streamers and confetti.

So...that was my friday night.
I had an exam today and so I decided to take a night to destress.
Tegan and Sara tomorrow, I am attempting to hide my excitement (but fuck am I pumped).

Mondaymondaymonday

I say damn your moodswings
Damn your mood swings
I'm calling out
I don't really care for your city anymore
I spend the night
I lay awake and miss you when you go
Without me
Oh what's wrong with you
Monday Monday Monday
Monday Monday Monday
Monday Monday Monday
Monday Monday Monday

Mondaymondaymonday - Tegan and Sara

So I am ridiculously excited, because on saturday I am going to see Tegan & Sara.
Now a few years ago I went through a phase where all I would listen to was T&S, literally my ipod was half full of their songs.
And though this phase of my life has passed, making way for bands of all sorts, I have always had a softspot for this indie duo.
So naturally I flew all the way to the moon and back when my friend told me he had two tickets to their show.
I'll let you know how it goes, maybe even take blurry, excited pictures.

Also, it seems like my family is really into the baked good these past couple days.
First the Pet des soeurs, and now three loaves of banana bread. The house smells like a bakery.
I hope your monday was full of pizaz.
I know mine was.

Typical sunday.

So today I was in the mood to bake, so I made Pet Des Soeurs.

Waves

So these are just some pictures that I took this summer, I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed the moments they capture.

TV:
So I recently bought the first season of "The OC".
Now I know I know, this show is no more than a glorified soap opera, but for some reason I can't stop watching. Like a cheesy romance novel, it's got me wondering whats going to happen next.

I'll let you know if Marissa and Ryan get together, I have a feeling they will and a couple seasons later the lead actress will want to expand her horizons and the writers will kill her off in a dramatic car crash.
...but thats just a guess.

Wake Up Sleepy Head.

So I've been wanting to do one of these for a while.
Here goes, I guess.

MUSIC:
At the moment I am going through a "Dave Matthews Band" phase, specifically their new album "Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King."

Now, I certainly don't pretend to be a music fanatic, I do play the guitar, I used to sing in a choir (though i severly lack the voice i once had) and I can play a couple diddys on the piano, but I'm no expert.

However I do know the feeling of being in complete harmony with a song.
I know the butterflies in your stomach and goosebumps on your arms when you hear something perfect.
I know the freedom of dancing sock footed in your room in the basement, all alone, the music blasting.

Now if you recognize a part of yourself in any of the things you just read then go and look up "Dave Matthews Band".

This is the kind of album that has such a wide range of songs that it really satisfies any mood you may be in.

Some of my personal favourites are: Dive In, Seven, Lying In The Hands Of God, Shake Me Like A Monkey, Why I Am, You and Me and Funny The Way It Is.
(That long list of favourites should show you how amazing this album is.)
